Procedure

  • Remove all loose dust, sand and cement particles at the application site/ expansion or construction joint area, mechanically or manually. Clean & dry the surface thoroughly.
  • Apply by brush Zahabiya Soft Seal Special ZSP-1191 as the Primer coat, diluted and well mixed with 30% potable water or preferably with 20% liquor ammonia all around the joint surfaces minimum up to 1½” depth.
  • Insert and fix deeply backer rod, styropore or other packing materials as may be suitable, to seal the expansion joint area. These insulating materials are fixed in the depth as specified by the consultant/ engineer, leaving free space between 3/4” to 1” (some times 2”) from outer exposed surface; to control flow of sealant inside.
  • Apply again uniform coat of Zahabiya Soft Seal Special ZSP-1191 (diluted with 10% water or liquor ammonia) all over the joints surfaces including upon backer rod, styropore or other packing material used.
  • Insert Zahabiya Sealing Gum ZSG-12/99 continuously and compactly along the length of the joint/gap, pressing it with slight pressure, taking care that no void or space is left un-filled. It must be ensured that no point or capillary is left to store or pass even the traces of water. ZSG-12/99 must be filled up to the depth of 4 to 5 mm from the exposed surface. Here Sealing Gum ZSG-12/99 will act as a Permanently Non-Cracking, Non Hardening, Water Tight, Oil Proof, Temperature & Weather Resistant providing a cushion-seal.
  • After filling SEALING GUM, fill and level up the remaining 4-5 mm by undiluted Zahabiya Soft Seal ZSP-1191 up to the upper exposed surface starting from marginal sides. ZSP-1191 may be filled in by trowel or cartridge compactly and densely, taking care that the level of the sealant must be slightly higher (convex) than the surface of floor/roof/wall, as it will slightly depress on proper air curing, maintaining the same desired level.
